Tips for Writing in English – Traveling to the United States
Traveling is the transfer of people from different distant geographic locations. Travel can be performed by feet, car, bicycle, plane, train, bus, boat, horse, bicycle or any other mode, with or without baggage, and is one way of traveling or round trip in which a person moves from one point to another. There are many different forms of travel, such as air travel, land transportation, sea travel, rail transport, courier service, car rental and vehicle rental. The methods of travel depend on the purpose and convenience for traveling. Air travel is quick and easy, however, it is expensive and involves a great deal of planning and security; land transportation is safe, comfortable and very affordable, but transportation via courier is safe and convenient as well as fast.
Many have a tendency of getting away with a variety of traveling violations every day. One of these common traveling violations is called the “pivot foot”. A pivot foot is when you drive your car in a circle instead of going around it. It is a common driving error and often results in a speeding ticket, which is the worst-case scenario when it comes to a traveling violation.
The preferred spelling of the word “dribble” in American English is “dribble”, while in British English the spelling is “dribble”. This is just another example of how Americans and Brits tend to shift the letter “l” in places like “dribble” to create words that don’t rhyme. Another example is when “dribble” is spelled as “dribbles”. In this example the “l” is usually replaced with “u”, making the two words sound more like one.
The “pivot foot” refers to an imaginary turn that turns an ordinary traveling stroke into a power shot. When practicing on the driving range to practice your swing and take a divot and take your driver with both feet on the ground. Then take a drive and send the ball as far down the fairway as you can use a very low, up and in, pendulum motion.
If you are in the UK, try this easy drill and see what happens. Take a rolling golf club and swing back and forth as hard as you can. Watch the golf club head as it catches the air and then comes down. For this exercise we have changed the preferred spelling of “drift” to “dribble” and “pivot foot”.
In closing, make sure that your spelling and pronunciations are correct when traveling to the United States. I don’t think that traveling to the United States is bad, but when you spell something wrong it can really throw off your performance.
