Healthy Definition

Health is a condition of mental, physical and emotional well-being where infirmity and illness are absent. Various definitions have been employed over the years for various purposes. Some of them include the following:

Social Well-Being: The total quality of life that includes the complete physical, emotional and mental well-being; this also includes a person’s social interactions with other people. It is an essential component of personal identity. This definition excludes the presence of diseases or other negative factors that decrease social well-being. In this sense, the absence of diseases means complete physical and emotional well-being. This kind of definition excludes persons who are mentally ill or emotionally sick.

The third definition has to do with physiological health. The absence of disease does not necessarily imply the absence of health risks. There are some diseases that are known to be associated with low vitality including: emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, renal failure, liver disease, and osteoporosis. In fact, the definition of healthy can also include these indicators as a prerequisite for being well.

Comprehensive Metabolism: This means that all the systems in the body are functioning properly. This is the opposite of disease when the systems are not functioning well. A person needs to be healthy in order to have optimal function of the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, immune, musculoskeletal, and endocrine systems. This is also the opposite of healthy since there are diseases when the human systems are overburdened or too weak to function normally.

Healthy Body: The definition of a healthy body is that a person has a high blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and the like under control. A high blood pressure indicates that the pump action of the heart is becoming abnormal. When the pump action of the heart is abnormal, it can lead to cardiac arrest, heart attack, or even death. High blood sugar indicates the need for very low doses of insulin. A person must also have low cholesterol because cholesterol is the precursor of the condition called atherosclerosis.

Vitality: A healthy body is a person that have a sufficient amount of energy, has good digestion, and does not suffer from chronic illness. The absence of any of these components indicates the presence of the condition known as wasting which is an indication of disease. It is therefore necessary to manage the disease to maintain health. In addition, the absence of any of these components also implies the absence of life-threatening diseases. In order to maintain the definition of healthy, it is important for individuals to develop their lifestyle to achieve good health.
